Note: View the memorandum regarding the CMS initial survey priority for portable x-ray suppliers [326KB, PDF].
Diagnostic x-ray tests are provided to patients in a place of residence such as their own home, a nursing home, or hospital. Portable x-ray services must be ordered by and provided under the supervision of a physician.
An occupational license is required for the business and professional licenses for the radiologic technologist and the physician. In addition, some providers of diagnostic imaging services may require licensure as a "health care clinic". Information on licensure as a health care clinic can be obtained from the Agency's Health Care Clinic Unit.
An application for Medicare certification includes submission of a completed application, required documentation, and successful completion of a survey.
Unless required by the “Health Care Clinic Act,” there are no state licensing requirements imposed by the Agency. The Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control regulates x-ray equipment.
